Mike Trout crushes another Yankee Stadium homer, his fifth in four games

NEW YORK (AP) — Mike Trout’s latest homer against the New York Yankees put him some rare company, and going deep again made history at Yankee Stadium.

Trout homered for the fifth time during a four-game series on Thursday, crushing a 446-foot drive in the seventh inning for theLos Angeles Angels in an 11-4 victory.

The three-time MVP joined Jimmie Foxx (1933), Darrell Evans (1985) and George Bell (1990) as the fourth player with five homers in a series against the Yankees, according to MLB research.

Trout homered twice on Mondaybefore going deep again in the following two games. In the series finale Thursday, Trout drove a 2-2 slider from reliever Angel Chivilli about halfway up the left field bleachers to give the Angels a 7-4 lead. That drive made Trout the first player to hit five homers in a series in the Bronx.

“I heard that after the game,” Trout said. “It’s pretty surreal. All the great players that came through here, so it’s pretty cool.”

“Honestly, not surprising,” Los Angeles manager Kurt Suzuki said. “When you’re with Mike every day, there’s nothing that you believe that he can’t do."

He also became the first visiting player to homer in four consecutive days at the current Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009.

Trout went 6 for 16 with five homers and nine RBIs in the series. He also has homered in his last five games at Yankee Stadium and drew an intentional walk in his next plate appearance before Jo Adell hit a grand slam.

“At this point it’s vintage Mike Trout,” Adell said. “When he’s healthy and feeling good, there’s nothing like it. It’s special. It’s one of a kind. So for all of us to experience it, it’s special.”

“He’s unbelievable,” Suzuki said. “He really is. It’s been an amazing week for him.”

Trout is hitting .246 with seven homers and 16 RBIs. He is 9 for 27 (.333) with five homers and 13 RBIs on the Angels’ road trip, which coincides with him making a mechanical tweak.

Trout’s career-high homer streak is seven games, achieved Sept. 4-12, 2022. He has homered in four straight games for the fourth time in his career.

Trout’s homer was part of a four-game series that featured four homers from Yankees’ slugger Aaron Judge. Judge homered twice Monday, again on Wednesday and went deep in the first inning in the series finale.

“He’s unreal,” designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton said after the Yankees lost for the seventh time in nine games. “Cool showing from him and Judgie all series. Obviously, you don’t want that against us, but you got to acknowledge the greatness.”

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the first time opposing players who owned multiple MVPs hit at least three homers in the same series.

“It was an impressive show by those two,” Suzuki said. ”

It appears that soccer starChristian Pulisicand his girlfriend, golfer Alexa Melton, have broken up, and the split seems quite ugly.

Fox News

Late last year, the star striker, who is captain of the U.S. Men's National Team, had to shut down rumors he was datingSydney Sweeney, but apparently, not everything can be fixed.

However, Melton appeared to backtrack just a bit.

"I’ve made some comments on a private matter and it’s been taken out of context. I received false info. He is not a cheater. Any narrative beyond that is not mine," Melton said in a recent Instagram Story. "Out of respect for Christian’s and my privacy, I will not speak further regarding this matter."

Cal Raleigh homered and had three RBIs for the Mariners, who trailed 7-2 before scoring five times in the fifth. Crawford hit a two-run single, Raleigh followed with a sacrifice fly and Julio Rodríguez tied it with a two-run homer.

The 426-foot shot to center field was Rodríguez's first home run this season.

Yordan Alvarez homered and had three of Houston's 17 hits, but the Astros lost their sixth straight game. All-Star shortstopJeremy Peña exited in the fourthbecause of right posterior knee tightness.

Taylor Trammell delivered an early three-run double and Cam Smith had a career-high four hits for Houston — including a two-run single that capped a 13-pitch at-bat.

Carlos Correa also had three hits and scored twice for the Astros, who stranded 13 runners. They loaded the bases in the top of the ninth before Alvarez flied out against Andrés Muñoz (2-1).

Alvarez already has six homers and 14 RBIs this season.

Abreu (0-2) walked Cole Young, pinch-hitter Brendan Donovan and Leo Rivas in the ninth before Crawford lined a single into left field. It was his seventh walk-off hit, tying Jim Presley for the team record.

The annual event brings some of golf's biggest fans to the Augusta National Golf Club every year to watch the pros take their shot at being named champion and earning a green jacket. Being a patron at the tournament comes with a strict set of rules, fromcell phones being prohibited to a strict dress code, but they aren't the only ones who must comply with the tournament's guidelines.

In fact, after proJason Daymade an impression at the 2024 Masters with his bold outfit choices, he was asked to make some changes when he returned one year later.

"With what we're supposed to wear, they said that's a little bit much, but that's OK," he said, perESPN. "I think I'm on the short list of guys that have to send their scripting in now. I get it."k

While Day got to return for the 2026 Masters, which officially kicked off on April 9, there have been a slew of other incidents throughout the tournament's history that have led to golfers, reporters and fans facing the consequences, whether it be getting disinvited, penalized, or worst of all, banned from Augusta.

Here are seven golfers, reporters and fans who have reportedly been banned, disinvited or penalized at the Masters Tournament.

Frank Stranahan

In 1948 — 14 years after the Masters wasfirst established— golfer Frank Stranahan was banned from the event after officials at Augusta National claimed he had misinterpreted the course's rules for hitting balls during practice, perThe New York Times.

According to the outlet, Stranahan toldSports Illustratedin 1998 that he didn't feel as though fellow players supported him amid the incident, deeming that they might've been "jealous."

"They had every right to be," he continued. "My dad was bankrolling me, and I could play every week without worrying."

Jack Whitaker

In 1966, broadcaster Jack Whitaker was working his first Masters telecast when he referred to the crowd coming up the 18th hole as a mob, perGolf Digest.

The following year, one month before the Masters, CBS told Whitaker that he would not be working the telecast not just because of the "mob" incident, but also because he failed to inform viewers of the green jacket ceremony at the conclusion of the play.

"It looked like a mob of people scurrying toward the green, but Mr. Roberts took offense," he told the Associated Press in 1979 of the co-founder of Augusta National and then-chairman, perGolf Digest. "He said the gallery at the Masters was not a mob. And that was that."

Years later, Whitaker was eventually re-invited to Augusta as a fan in 1972, despite still working for CBS. But, when the network's announcer became ill at the 16th hole, Whitaker stepped in to replace him.

Kenny Mayne

SportsCenter anchor Kenny Mayne appeared on theStugotz and Companypodcast in February 2026 and said he was "banned for life from Augusta" for an incident that actually happened away from the Masters.

Mayne claimed he was covering the Players Championship at Sawgrass when he made some "smart ass comment" along the lines of, "We'll see you at the Masters, where we bring four saucy ladies out to play!' "

"Or, you know, just something stupid, right? But mentioning that I’m bringing women to play golf," he added. "And [Augusta National] called into the ESPN truck, like we’re still on the air, and the people in Augusta are literally … they somehow have the inside number to the truck. And they were like, 'He is not coming!' So I was never invited to go by my lords."

Gary McCord

In 1994, Gary McCord was fired from the CBS Masters broadcast team for comparing the smoothness of the green to a bikini wax, and also saying that some of the mounds on the course looked like "body bags."

Nearly three decades later, he opened up about the incident during an October 2024 episode of his show,Kostis & McCord, and shared the letter CBS Sport’s golf producer Frank Chirkinian showed him from Augusta at the time.

"We need to eradicate this lesion on golf. He is theHoward Sternof golf and we need to pay attention to this and what he said," the letter partly read, according to McCord.

Greg Norman

Although not banned, Greg Norman — the former LIV Golf CEO who was runner-up at the 1986, 1987 and 1996 Masters, perThe Sydney Morning Herald— hasn't been invited to the Masters since 2023, when tensions between LIV Golf (which he was then-CEO of) and the PGA Tour were at an all time high. At the time, Masters chairman Fridley said he didn’t want Norman’s presence to pull attention away from the tournament.

"The primary issue and the driver there is that I want the focus this week to be on the Masters competition, on the great players that are participating, the greatest players in the world, which, by our decision in December, we ensured that we were going to honor and be consistent with our invitation criteria," Masters chairman Fred Ridley said of the decision in 2023, perGolf Channel. "It really was to keep the focus on the competition."

Clayton Baker

When Augusta says you can't take souvenirs from the course, that includes sand — just ask Clayton Baker.

The golf fan was arrested in 2012 for taking sand from Augusta National Golf Course during the Masters. He later recounted the incident toNJ.com, claiming that he had attempted to get some of the sand as memorabilia, but was immediately surrounded by security guards who knocked the cup out of his hand, threw him to the ground, handcuffed him and took him to the county jail. He paid a $285 bond and was released from jail, per NJ.com.

"I did something I shouldn't have done and it cost me $20,000 and a lot of public shame," Baker told the outlet. "That seems like a lot for a handful of sand."

According to the outlet, Baker's charges were eventually dropped on the condition that he forfeit the $285 bond, but the whole ordeal cost him an estimated $20,000 between lawyer fees and a non-refundable Masters badge, perBusiness Insider.

The incident also had a serious toll on his mental health, as he told NJ.com that he was "seriously depressed for weeks."

Wayne Player

Wayne Player — the son of Masters championGary Player—received a lifetime ban from the Mastersin 2021. During the Honorary Starters ceremony in 2021, Wayne sparked criticism after holding up a box of OnCore golf balls during a photo opportunity with Lee Elder, a Black golfer who broke the tournament's color barrier in 1975.

In response, Augusta National took away his badge for the rest of the week and determined that he was no longer allowed on the premises, perGolf Digest.Wayne told the outlet in 2022 that following the incident, he called Elder and apologized.

"I've got Lee's cellphone number. I called and I said, ‘You know, Lee, I love you guys,' " Wayne said, per the outlet. "You know, everyone said I was disrespectful for a special moment in time for Elder. I said I was sorry, and I didn’t mean to take up his special time. And he said, ‘Wayne, you know how much I love you. Right?’ It didn’t cross his mind. That’s important for people to know."

However, despite apologizing to Augusta National and the Masters chairman and trying to appeal his ban, they did not change their position, perGolf Digest.

Ichiro Suzuki honorary statue unveiled by Mariners, but with broken bat

April 12, 2026
Ichiro Suzuki honorary statue unveiled by Mariners, but with broken bat

The Seattle Mariners unveiled a statue to honor Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki outside T-Mobile Park on Friday. Unfortunately, the sculpture was damaged upon being revealed to the public.

Yahoo Sports

The bronze statue, sculpted by Chicago artist Lou Cella, depicts Suzuki in his signature pose preparing to hit, with his right arm extended while holding his bat and his left hand tugging on his sleeve.

Suzuki’s pose was accurate. However, his bat didn’t survive the unveiling. When the tarp was pulled off the statue — with some difficulty — the bat was bent backward at the handle. What should have been a majestic moment for a Mariners icon instead became more than a bit awkward, as documented on video by several in attendance.

The broken bat was impossible to ignore, despite blue and green confetti being fired into the air. Suzuki himself pointed to the statue in jubilation to acknowledge the honor, but the obvious could not be overlooked.

Fellow Mariners Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. covered his face in disbelief before making a joke about the embarrassing situation.

“I did not do that,” Griffey said to Suzuki, viaSeattle Times reporter Ryan Divish.

Demonstrating the humor that madehis 2025 National Baseball Hall of Fame induction speechso memorable, Suzuki joked that New York Yankees closer and fellow Hall of Famer Mariano Rivera must have broken his bat, as he was known for doing to so many batters with his formidable cutter.

“I didn’t think Mariano would come out here and break the bat,” Suzuki said through an interpreter.

The bat was soon restored to its upright position. Perhaps some duct tape will be used to keep it in place. Some reinforcement and proper welding might be employed once the Mariners go on the road after their four-game set with the Astros.

Suzuki was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2025 along with CC Sabathia, Billy Wagner, Dick Allen and Dave Parker. The first Japanese player to be inducted into Cooperstown, he finished his MLB career with 3,089 hits. (Including the 1,278 hits he recorded while playing in Japan, Suzuki has more hits than anyone ever in professional baseball.)

Famously, the 19-year veteran was not voted in unanimously, as one voterkept Suzuki off their ballot. During his speech at Cooperstown, Suzuki pointed out that his achievements were recognized by “all but one” of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America voters.

"The offer for that writer to have dinner at my home has now expired," he said.

Suzuki’s statue stands outside the Mariners’ home ballpark close to the monuments created for fellow Hall of Famers Griffey and Edgar Martinez (also sculpted by Cella).

Before Friday’s home game versus the Houston Astros, the first 40,000 fans to enter the ballpark will receivea miniature replica statueof Suzuki. According to the Mariners, 20 of those replica statues will be signed by the Hall of Famer. Presumably, the bat on those replicas will be upright.

At least the Mariners had a sense of humor about the entire matter, witha social media postaddressing the replica statue giveaway.

How much are Olympics tickets? LA 2028 tickets go on sale worldwide

Ticket sales for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics opened globally on Thursday after what organizers said was a record-setting first week of local presales, underscoring strong early demand for a Games that must rely heavily on private revenue.

USA TODAY Sports

LA28 said it sold more tickets in the first week than any previous Olympic Games had in their opening week, with every ticket in that initial phase going to residents of the Los Angeles and Oklahoma City areas despite some complaints about high prices, fees and availability.

Organizers said hundreds of thousands of $28 tickets - billed as the lowest-priced Olympic tickets in modern history - were snapped up by local buyers, although some buyers have complained about high costs and fees, and a lack of ticket availability.

"The success of the locals presale speaks for itself," LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover said in a statement. "We're thrilled by the level of interest and enthusiasm in tickets to the Games."

The global sales launch, known as "Drop 1," runs through April 19 for fans who were selected through a draw and assigned time slots. Tickets are available across Olympic events, including the opening and closing ceremonies.

How much do Olympics tickets cost?

Organizers acknowledged that some fans experienced sticker shock after a marketing push around the $28 entry-level tickets, only to find many of the cheapest seats had already gone quickly or that some events were priced much higher.

Allison Katz-Mayfield, LA28's senior vice president for games delivery revenue, told Reuters that was not unexpected because the least expensive tickets were always likely to move fastest.

"We really wanted to make sure that the locals had access to the most affordable tickets and we saw that come to life through this presale," she said, adding that more low-cost inventory would be released in future sales phases.

LA28 said more than one million tickets priced at $28 will ultimately be made available to the public. Nearly half of all Olympic tickets are priced under $200, while more than three-quarters, including finals, are under $400. Only about 5% of tickets cost more than $1,000, organizers said.

Katz-Mayfield said demand had exceeded expectations from the registration phase through the first sales window. She added that LA28 still had roughly a third of tickets currently on sale priced below $200 as the global launch began.

Financial pressure

The organizing committee is under pressure to show it can deliver a fiscally responsible Games without burdening taxpayers, who could be on the hook for cost overruns. LA28 has said its more than $7 billion operation will be funded principally through ticket sales, sponsorship and hospitality.

Katz-Mayfield said strong ticket sales, along with sponsorship and hospitality revenue, were positive signs for the financial health of the Games.

LA28 also warned fans against buying from unofficial resale platforms before its verified resale programme launches in 2027, saying tickets sold elsewhere could be speculative or invalid.
